Minto Communities has big plans for the 3,800-acre Callery-Judge Grove in western Palm Beach County. Among them: 6,500 homes, a baseball spring training facility, a 150-room hotel, offices, stores and space for aerospace research and development.
Minto last month paid $51 million for the property, whose previous owners had tried for years to win development approval. Neighbors in The Acreage and Loxahatchee fought off the plans, griping that a big development would ruin their area’s rural feel.
The builder didn’t say which teams might play at its baseball facility. The Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays are negotiating for a shared home in Palm Beach Gardens, and the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins for years have shared Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.
Minto is stressing the project’s potential for economic development, and the builder promises plenty of green space.
“Much of the development will be dedicated to lakes, natural preserve areas and miles of natural hiking, biking and walking trails,” Minto Vice President John Carter said in a statement.
